NaplesTax preparation in Naples, without the seasonal scramble.
Most Naples returns are not hard. They are just crowded: a brokerage account, a rental, a K-1 that turns up in March, and half a year spent in another state.
By appointment in Naples, or entirely online.
The Naples version of a tax problem is rarely a missing W-2.
It is usually residency, a late K-1, or depreciation on a rental that nobody carried forward properly. Those are all fixable, and they are all easier to deal with in November than in April.
Residency, properly
If you spend part of the year here and part somewhere else, which state taxes your income depends on residency, and residency is a question of facts rather than a day count. Driver's licence, voter registration, where your vehicles are registered, where your primary home is, where your doctors and banks are.
States with an income tax do not always let a resident go quietly. If you have recently made Florida your home, keep the documentation from that year, and tell us on the call so the first return we file for you supports the position rather than undermining it.
Investment income and late K-1s
Brokerage statements get corrected. Partnerships issue K-1s in March, sometimes later. Neither is a reason to panic, and both are a reason not to file the first week of February. We will tell you when it is worth waiting and when an extension is the better call, which is a filing extension and not a payment extension.
Rental property and second homes
If you rent a unit out, even part of the year, Schedule E wants the income, the expenses and the split between personal and rental use. Association fees, a special assessment and a routine maintenance charge are not all treated the same way. Depreciation has to start correctly and continue consistently, and a sale years later depends on it having been right the whole time.
If you were searching for a CPA
A lot of people in Naples search for a CPA by default. Sometimes that is the right call and sometimes it is not: here is the plain-English difference between a CPA, an Enrolled Agent and a tax preparer, and which one your return actually calls for. We have an Enrolled Agent on the team, we are not a CPA firm, and we will tell you if you need one.

Naples questions.
Do I need a CPA in Naples, or will a tax preparer do?
For most returns, either works. You specifically need a CPA when someone asks you for audited or reviewed financial statements, which is normally a bank or an investor. For everything else the question is who is available in August, not which letters they hold. We wrote the longer answer at CPA vs Enrolled Agent vs tax preparer.
I split the year between Naples and another state. Where do I pay?
It turns on residency, and residency is decided by more than nights slept. Driver's licence, voter registration, vehicle registration, where your primary home is, and where your financial life sits all count. A state losing a taxpayer sometimes asks for evidence, especially high-tax states, so keep the paperwork from the year you switched.
I have income from investments and a rental. Is that complicated?
It adds schedules rather than difficulty. Brokerage income, K-1s that arrive late, and Schedule E for the rental all have to line up. The two things that go wrong most often are depreciation that was never carried forward correctly and cost basis nobody tracked on a sale.
Does my Collier County condo association affect my return?
Usually not directly for a personal residence. It matters if you rent the unit out, because association fees, assessments and the split between personal and rental use all feed into Schedule E. A special assessment for a structural repair is treated differently from a routine fee.
Do you meet clients in Naples?
By appointment, yes. Most Naples clients work with us online because it is faster, but if you would rather sit down and go through it, we arrange a time. Nothing about the return changes either way.
Is there a Florida state income tax return to file?
No. Florida does not tax personal income, so most full-time residents file a federal return and nothing else. A state return comes up if you moved during the year, still work for an employer in another state, or own property somewhere that taxes income.
